I have the Lord Baltimore variety. It grows muiltiple stalks 10-12' high, and is the hardy kind. I just cut it down in the spring, and off it goes. It has never sen the inside of a house. I am in NW OH, which is also zone 5.
Reply:Should be ok outside in a sheltered place with maybe some fleece to protect it
Reply:According to the Hidden Valley Hibiscus website:

http://www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com/care...

"Hibiscus are tropical plants that can't tolerate freezes. "

The article goes on to explain about "hardy" hibiscus:

"However, for those of you who live in areas with just a few really cold nights (below 32F), such as southern Texas, southern or coastal California, southern Louisiana, or central Florida, it may be possible to keep your hibiscus in the ground year round if the plants are covered during the coldest nights. "

If you live in CT, it would be best to bring it in every year.

*~ENJOY~*
Reply:Depends on the type of hibiscus.

Rose of Sharon is a woody shrub variety %26amp; it can freeze. The leaves fall off and in the spring it grows anew!

My mom had a huge beautiful Red one (not sure what kind) It was more like a perennial that froze down to the ground and came up new each year.
Reply:Now is the time to plan on a 'cart'. Platform with short sides (1" minimum tall sides) on wheels. Add tall handle. This works great for northern zones to bring in their tropical plants %26amp; trees.
