What kind of light does a hibiscus need, outside and inside, it is in a pot and is 4 ft tall?

Hello, I have a tropical hibiscus that I have had 8 years. Just before the 1st freeze (normally late November) I prune back the plant to the height of 6 feet and winter it in our living room facing the north window. It will continue to bloom through out the winter season. Once the fear of frost/freeze is over we place the tree back out side and it is on the south side of our house and it receives 6-8 hours of sun. Year after year it has never failed to bloom and have such pleasing huge red flowers.

As far as my hardy ones. They come back year after year. I have recently moved the ones in the ground to a new location in hopes for more growth. My container ones, I really don't do much maintenance other that watering and monthly feeding.

I have 'hardy' hibiscus that has been planted in my yard in north central Georgia for 3 years now. They like plenty of sun and water. I fertilized mine with an all purpose fertilizer 2 weeks ago before any new green growth came out. They now are putting out new green shoots. Over the winter, the stalks turn grey and die. I usually leave up 2 or 3 of these to stake the new growth until it's tall enough, then I cut the old growth away.

I'm sure if you put yours in the pot outside in good light and fertilize it by the directions, you'll have beautiful flowers shortley.

Good Luck
Reply:We have a few Hardy hibiscus in large pots. We usually put them in my husbands work shop during the winter, but this year we left them outside and they are now growing and have lots of healthy leaves. Our winter got down to about the 20's. Lots of cold wind. I'm very surprised the roots did not freeze.

Hibiscus need sun and water outside and inside. A south facing window is best for the winter months. Don't keep the soil too wet indoors.
Reply:The only Hibiscus I ever had was out in my yard, in full sun and it was beautiful!! We thought a freeze had killed it, pulled it up just to find out it more than likely would have come back.
Reply:sun, sun and more sun.
